She was an avid sailor: she earned her navigator’s papers, and owned and sailed the “Isprava” for many years. She photographed, and arranged portraits in a similar nature to the great Julia Margaret Cameron.
The princess wrote and published, lectured against communism, was exiled with her family, established hospitals for the wounded, was married twice, and became an abbess in later years. Quite a woman.
Princess Ileana also was the organizer of the Girl Reserves of the Red Cross, and Chief of the Romanian Girl Guide Movement.
“Dă mâna!”
“It transforms, for me, frowns into smiles; it beautifies, as if a film had been washed off an old picture so that the colors appear clear and bright, like nature on a warm spring day after a shower.” -Princess Ileana of Romania
